Rebuilding Trust in Food — One Grain at a Time

🌱What exactly is Teff ?

Teff — Eragrostis tef — is an ancient cereal grain originating in Ethiopia and Eritrea. It belongs to the grass family and is one of the world's smallest cereal grains. Individual grains are roughly 1 mm long, which makes the contrast between its tiny seed and its importance to Ethiopian food culture particularly interesting.

It isn't just an exotic new health-food trend. Teff has been cultivated and eaten in Ethiopia for centuries and is a major staple there. Today, Ethiopia and Eritrea remain its principal growing regions, although it is also cultivated in several other countries.

A tiny grain with thousands of years of history.

🌱 Why is this tiny grain so interesting?

A tiny grain. A lot to discover.

Teff is naturally gluten-free and provides dietary fibre, iron and a range of essential minerals. Per 100 g, it contains approximately 12.4 g of protein and 8 g of dietary fibre, giving this ancient Ethiopian grain an impressive nutritional profile.

Tiny in size, Teff has been part of Ethiopian food culture for thousands of years — valued for generations and now being discovered by the world.

Ancient Nutrition, Modern Integrity

Why GodGrains Exists?

We believe the modern food industry has lost sight of its purpose. Convenience, yield, and shelf life have replaced nutrition, integrity, and respect for the land. GodGrains exists to offer an alternative.

We started this project to prove that food can still be pure, traceable, and nourishing — and that doing things the right way can still be sustainable and accessible.

The Problem

Most grains on supermarket shelves are bred for industrial efficiency, not human nutrition. High yields often mean lower mineral content, weaker protein structures, and heavier processing requirements.

We believe there is room for something better: grains chosen for their nutritional value first, grown by farmers who still work with nature, not against it.

Our Approach

We began with teff, a tiny grain cultivated in Ethiopia's highlands for thousands of years — naturally resilient, nutrient-dense, and largely untouched by industrial hybridisation.

  • Non-hybrid variety (not cross-bred for industrial agriculture)

  • Naturally gluten-free (no processing required to remove gluten)

  • Contains all 9 essential amino acids

  • Grown using traditional, low-input methods

  • Teff is naturally rich in iron, providing 7.8 mg per 100g.

Verifiable Information

We believe you deserve clear, reliable information about the food you eat.

Our nutritional statements are based on recognised food composition databases, independent laboratory analysis and peer-reviewed research on Teff and traditional grains.

No exaggerated promises. No medical claims. Just transparent nutritional information — so you can make informed choices about your food.

Traditional Farming Methods

Our partner cooperatives use time-tested cultivation practices that help maintain soil health and biodiversity:

We work directly with these farmers to uphold quality standards and fair compensation.

  • No synthetic pesticides or fertilizes

  • Natural crop rotation

  • Rain-fed agriculture (minimal irrigation)

  • Manual harvesting
